I want to ask you a question. Who are you? Take a moment to reflect before answering. This might be difficult for you to answer because we rarely think of such questions. Let me give you a few hints about who you are NOT.
You are not your bank account.
You are not your job.
You are not the car you drive.
You are not your home or residence.
You are not all of your achievements.
You are not the clothes you wear.
You are not what you have done in the past.
You are not what you plan to do in the future.
You might have some difficulty answering this simple question, but that is OK. Becoming stoic sometimes requires us to examine ourselves in ways we’ve never thought of before. Sometimes it is uncomfortable and we don’t like what we see. So, what are you going to do about it? I suggest diving into Stoic teachings to start making positive self-improvement each and every day.
Now that I’ve got you thinking, take your time and really think about my initial question. Chew on it for a couple of days. The answer doesn’t matter to anyone except you. You’ll be on the right path when you find it. Again, I’ll ask, who are you?
